Tell me who could resist buying any album that uses a snapshot such as the one shown below for its cover art? Nirvana knew how to draw the flocks to their music using a baby picture, followed up with rock-solid, upbeat grooves that were easily reconstructed by any experienced guitarist, but were uniquely original in style and complemented with Nirvana's signature "grunge" feel -- a dirty guitar riff which couldn't so easily be reproduced without adding in a noticeable watered-downness. Several later bands, including Alice In Chains, would fame themselves on this same sound by throwing in a repetition and galvanizing it to a grunge-metal sound.

Experienced Grunge-ologists such as myself will also tell you that Nirvana were not the only progenators of their era. 1991's Nevermind, the band's so-called "debut" offering, was not even the first of their albums. Bleach was the original debut, released back in `89, I think. By comparison, Bleach clearly had a much faster, mirkier, harder, and crunchier sound than anything else Nirvana yielded forth, all of which went on to display more equally balanced shares of mellowness and ruggedness. That's not to say that all of Nevermind's rockers aren't immediately identified right on spot, though. While nearly every single song on Bleach is a grinder, "Breed" is possibly the heaviest and most ignited song on Nevermind; followed next in hardness by the throat-coarsed "Stay Away," and then the rock splitting percussion of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," (The best song ever written!) which is where all the band's future music begins to take a turn at something a tad slower. Very few of the band's other albums are real hardballs, but rely more upon inward reflection and self-examination than anything else. I admit to believing that Nirvana's music conveys more intellectual aspects than it conceals behind its rockin' and rollin'.

After April 5th of 1994, Kurt Cobain was found dead in his home from a suicidal overdose. I think it's a sad shame that Kurt Cobain isn't still around to continue this music.
